Samuel Sagnella, 26, of Witch Lane, was charged with driving under the influence and several traffic violations Sunday.
Sagnella was clocked by police radar traveling 47 mph in a posted 25 mph zone on Post Road West about 3:30 a.m. Sunday, according to police. When the officer pulled out to stop him, he saw Sagnella fail to stop at the red traffic light at Post Road West and Kings Highway North, police said.
As Sagnella continued driving west on Post Road West, the officer said he saw him cross three-quarters of the way over the double-yellow traffic line, heading toward approaching traffic at a high rate of speed.
Once Sagnella was stopped, the officer said he detected an odor of alcohol. He failed the field sobriety tests and was taken into custody, police said. He was charged with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, failure to drive in the proper lane, failure to obey a control signal, traveling unreasonably fast and illegally operating a motor vehicle with his license under suspension.
Sagnella was later released after posting $500 bond and is scheduled to appear Sept. 26 in Norwalk Superior Court.
