WESTPORT — A town resident allegedly assaulted a victim during an argument, causing multiple injuries.
Police received a call Monday morning from Florida about an ongoing assault at a Cross Highway address. The caller said he had been sent text messages and photos of injuries allegedly caused by Neil Bhatia, according to police.
Officers reported Bhatia smelled of alcohol and was disturbed by police’s presence when they arrived at the address around 8 a.m. May 29. The address was also listed as his residence. Police said an argument at the home became physical and Bhatia caused injuries to the victim’s face and arm.
Officers arrested the 40-year-old, then learned of a protective order out of California that Bhatia had violated in his conduct with the victim, police said. According to police, Bhatia also used profanities against, insulted and was uncooperative with officers. He was charged with third-degree assault, disorderly conduct and violation of a protective order.
