Westport police: Short pursuit ends in arrest for car theft

WESTPORT — After a short chase, Westport Police stopped a New Haven man allegedly driving a stolen car in the early hours of Nov. 11.
An officer tried to stop a car driven by Dakarai Harper on Riverside Avenue around 3 a.m., according to police. Following a short pursuit, Harper was stopped in the parking lot of the Saugatuck Train Station. After making the stop, police found the car had been stolen from neighboring Norwalk.
Harper, an 18-year-old resident of Button Street in New Haven, was charged with third-degree larceny for motor vehicle theft, a felony. He also faces charges of disobeying the signal of an officer, reckless driving, operating a motor vehicle without a license and operating an unregistered car.
His bail was set at $15,000 ahead of a Nov. 21 court date.
