Andrew R. Jones of Westport has been elected the new board chairman of the Yankee Institute, a self-described "free-market think tank."

Jones is an entrepreneur, investor and business executive, according to a press release. He succeeds former U.S. Rep. Rob Simmons, who will continue to serve on the board.

"With a legislative committee proposing a $2.4 billion tax increase that could crush our state's future, the need for the Yankee Institute has never been clearer, Carol Platt Liebau, Yankee Institute president, said in the release announcing Jones' appointment. "In this environment, we are especially grateful for Andy's willingness to take on a larger role."

"Connecticut faces many well-documented challenges," Jones said. "I'm excited to be part of the Yankee Institute, the organization that is advancing the free-market solutions that will bring opportunity back to our state."

The Yankee Institute for Public Policy is a Connecticut think tank that "develops and advances policy solutions to promote smart, limited government, fairness for taxpayers and an open road to opportunity for all the people of our state," according to its publicity.
