WESTPORT — A town man was arrested after police say he kicked down a door to prevent someone from calling 911 after a fight.
On a 911 call to police Dec. 27, the dispatcher could hear a struggle, but nothing was said before the call dropped. According to Westport police, when the dispatcher called back an out of breath man answered, who said there “was no problem.”
Officers were dispatched to the home and upon arrival learned there had been a disturbance. Officers spoke to the victim who stated she had an argument with the suspect, identified as Damien McClave, 53, of Westport.
When the argument became heated, the victim attempted to call 911 from the house phone, but the suspect allegedly took it away from her, according to police.
The victim than hid in a locked bathroom and tried to call 911 from a cell phone. The suspect then allegedly kicked in the bathroom door in a second attempt to prevent the victim from calling the police. Two minor children were in the home during the incident.
McClave was charged with disorderly conduct, criminal mischief second degree, risk of injury to child and interfering with an emergency call. McClave was released on $25,000 and is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 22.
