WESTPORT — On Sunday, a town resident allegedly sped down Riverside Avenue, off-center in the southbound lane and with none of his car’s lights on.

An officer stopped the car around 7:30 p.m. March 5 and the driver, Hesham El Sayed, became argumentative and smelled of alcohol, according to police. The 32-year-old then refused to comply with field sobriety tests and was arrested, police said.

Officers charged El Sayed with driving under the influence, operating a motor vehicle without a valid license, failure to drive in the proper lane and failure to illuminate headlights while driving. The resident of Saugatuck Avenue in Westport was released on a $500 bond ahead of a March 15 court date.
