A weather front that swept through Westport on Wednesday night, triggering a burst of rain, thunder and lightning, with at least three local homeowners reporting their property was hit by lightning.

Firefighters said none of the lightning strikes, from about 8:30 to 10 p.m., appeared to have inflicted serious damage.

A home on Bushy Ridge suffered damage to sheet rock and exterior siding after it was hit by lightning. Firefighters sent to the scene cut away part of the home's siding to make sure that fire had not spread beyond the area initially damaged.

A lightning strike on a Warnock Drive home ignited a fire in an interior wall, Firefighters had to cut through the sheet rock to extinguish the blaze.

A third strike on Country Road struck a tree in the front yard, sending an electrical surge into the garage, exploding a control panel for a lawn-irrigation system.

Because of the heavy volume of storm-related calls, the Fairfield Fire Department sent its Engine 4 to cover Westport fire headquarters to help respond to the incidents.
