Westport gets grant from energy-efficiency program

Westport is one of 35 communities receiving new grants from Energize Connecticut, a program between the state utilities and the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund.

The grants, ranging from $5,000 to $15,000, were awarded to communities participating in the Energy Communities program, pledging to be more efficient and use more renewable energy in municipal facilities.

Wednesday's awards are the first time these Bright Idea grants have been awarded.

Besides Westport, which received a $10,000 grant, other communities receiving grants were Avon, Beacon Falls, Berlin, Bethany, Bloomfield, Bridgeport, Cornwall, Durham, Easton, East Haven, Enfield, Fairfield, Farmington, Glastonbury, Guilford, Hamden, Hartford, Madison, Mansfield, Middletown, Milford, New London, Newtown, North Haven, Orange, Portland, Somers, Southbury, Stratford, Trumbull, West Hartford, Weston, Wilton, and Woodbridge.
