Maura S. Fruin, a literacy specialist and teacher in Westport's public schools, has been named assistant principal of East Elementary School in New Canaan.

Her new job starts July 1.

Fruin most recently was a literacy specialist at Greens Farms Elementary School and a third-grade teacher at Long Lots Elementary School. She previously worked as an elementary-level educator in the Boston area, where she taught various grade levels and a variety of disciplines. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Assumption College in Worcester, Mass., and received her Masters of Arts degree in education from Lesley University, in Cambridge, Mass.

"We are very excited to welcome Maura to our district," Gary Kass, the New Canaan schools director of human resources, said in a press statement. "In addition to bringing an extensive background in literacy and experience as a coach to other teachers, she will be sharing her warm and inviting can-do attitude with the East School community."
