George Knapp, 42, of Fairfield, was charged early Friday with driving under the influence.

Knapp crossed over the double-yellow traffic line prior to making a left turn from Bridge Street onto Compo Road South, police said. As he drove north on Compo Road South, he crossed the double-yellow traffic line two times, police said.

After he was stopped, an officer smelled a "strong odor" of alcohol on Knapp's breath, police said. Knapp failed subsequent field sobriety tests, according to the report.

Knapp was charged with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol and failure to drive right. He was released on $500 bond and is scheduled to appear Sept. 19 in Norwalk Superior Court.
