Mario Batali's new restaurant in the Saugatuck section of town will open this week, a colleague of the celebrity chef and television personality tells the Westport News.

"Our hopes are to establish ourselves as a neighborhood restaurant for a very long time," Nancy Selzer, a business partner with Batali in the Tarry Lodge Enoteca Pizzeria, said Sunday. "We hope that people respond to our venue and dining experience the way they have to the Port Chester [N.Y.] Tarry Lodge."

Selzer declined to specify which day the restaurant would open, but said patrons can begin making reservations on Tuesday.

The restaurant at 30 Charles St. will have about 100 seats and also include a wood-fired pizza oven and a wood-fired grill, she said.

The Tarry Lodge will be the second highly anticipated to open this week in Westport.

On Wednesday, the Shake Shack, a New York favorite that bills itself as an updated roadside stand, is scheduled to open at 1849 Post Road East.

The upscale burgery founded by chef Danny Meyer, which has replaced Pho Mekong Thai-Vietnamese Noodle House and Restaurant, will be a 100-seat restaurant, including 20 outdoor seats at the 3,000-square-foot site. It will be open seven days a week, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday, and from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.

To preview opening of Batali's Tarry Lodge, Selzer and the local staff held a launch party Saturday night at the restaurant for invited guests where wine, hors d'oeuvres and pizza were served.

"We got to know some of our neighbors, and we were very happy to meet everyone," Selzer added.

Batali and his frequent partner, Joe Bastianich, opened the first Tarry Lodge restaurant in Port Chester in 2008, followed by the Tarry Market in 2010. The Westport restaurant will be the Batali partnership's first in Connecticut.

Batali owns 17 restaurants in the New York City area, Los Angeles and Las Vegas, including Babbo, Del Posto, Esca and Eataly NYC.

He has also hosted several television shows on the Food Network and written a series of culinary books. A new culinary-themed television program co-hosted by Batali, "The Chew," will premiere in September on the ABC network.
