Westport's downtown will be the very portrait of its widely cherished artistic heritage when the 40th annual Westport Fine Arts Festival takes to the streets Saturday and Sunday.
Sponsored by the Westport Downtown Merchants Association, the event is set from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Parking Harding Plaza and Gorham Island.
The event showcases more than 100 different kinds of artwork by an eclectic range of artists, as well as a series of musical performances both days, street performers, food and children's activities.
But the festival's central attraction is art, and the DMA organizers have arranged for artists from around the nation to exhibit works in a variety of media, including oil painting, watercolors, printmaking, sculpture, mixed media and photography, plus recently added categories of glass, ceramics, fiber, jewelry, wood and digital art.
A range of the participants in the festival is evident by this sampler:
William McCarthy, whose landscape paintings have been award winners in earlier festivals, will exhibit again this year. In 2011, one of his works was given the Best in Painting award.
Randi Solin, a blown-glass artist, is among those exhibiting her work in one of the recently added festival categories.
Jason McLeod will have his "Time Traveler" one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces on display during the event.
Admission to the Westport Fine Arts Festival is free. For more information, visit www.westportfineartsfestival.com.
