A 29-year-old man from the Bronx, N.Y., has been charged with stealing money from a local bank as part of an identity theft ring.

Meischan Mamby was charged on a warrant last Friday with carrying out the crimes at the TD Bank office on Charles Street in 2010 and 2011. He was served with the warrant at the Bridgeport Correctional Center, where he was being held on unrelated charges.

Mamby is believed to have used a false identity to obtain several thousand dollars from the local bank, part of what police indicated is a wider identity-theft operation.

He was charged with second-degree identity theft, third-degree larceny and first-degree forgery. Bond was set at $20,000 and he is scheduled to appear Aug. 13 in Norwalk Superior Court.
