The exhibit, from March 1 through March 23, will feature 38 artworks curated by Ian Berry, director of the Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
"It is an honor to work with Susan Malloy and the Westport Art Center on this exhibition to celebrate Susan's milestone birthday," Berry said. "There is no better way to celebrate an artist then to bring their work together in an exhibition so all can see works across several decades, combined with new paintings made this past year."
The opening reception for "Susan Malloy: In the Studio," will be Saturday, March 1, from 3 to 5 p.m.
Malloy was born and raised in New York, where she attended the New Lincoln School. She graduated from Skidmore College with a degree in studio art, and attended the Art Students League in New York. In 1956, she attended an art workshop in Positano, Italy, which opened her eyes to new ways of seeing color and forever influenced her work.
In 1957, she married Edwin Malloy, and in 1969, they moved with their two children to Westport, where she still lives.
Malloy has had 11 solo exhibitions at institutions including Skidmore College, the University of Bridgeport, the Greenwich Arts Center and the Harvard University Divinity School. She also has exhibited in several juried group shows throughout New England, including the Westport Arts Center's last three group shows.
A special program, "Meet the Artist: Susan Malloy," a brunch-time talk about her exhibited works and life as an artist, will take place Tuesday, March 11, from 11 a.m. to noon and is free and open to the public.
The Arts Center gallery, 51 Riverside Ave., is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m.
