Fifteen Westport Weston Family Y gymnasts experienced the world stage this summer.

The 15 girls, ages 10-14, on the Y exhibition gymnastics team, spent 11 days at the International Federation of Gymnastics 14th World Gymnaestrada as part of the USA Delegation in Lausanne, Switzerland. The festival is held every four years and this year, 55 National Federation Delegations with approximately 20,000 gymnasts, participated.

The United States had more than 300 gymnasts from eight gymnastic centers (Texas, California, Wisconsin, Maryland, Georgia, Indiana, North Carolina and Connecticut).

The Westport gymnasts performed a total of six times including an outdoor performance in the city of Riponne and a special invitation to perform with the top exhibition teams from South American Nations at the Pan American National Evening.

Westport is coached by Sally Silverstein, the Y's senior director of sports and recreation, and her daughter, Lindsay Navarro.

Silverstein said, "The girls were just beautiful to watch and this was an experience of a lifetime. They were so very proud to represent their country and I was so very proud of them."
