The Westport Woman's Club will host a performance by Westport pianist Dalia Lazar at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, at the club, 44 Imperial Ave.
Lazar's program will include Liszt Petrarch's "Sonnet 104" and "Dante Sonata," as well as waltzes by Fredreic Chopin, according to a release.
Lazar, born in Croatia, began studying piano at an early age, and at 16 was admitted to Moscow's P.I. Tchaikovsky Conservatory. She performed throughout the Soviet Union during her studies, and upon graduating, continued her career in New York and London, where she studied with Karl Urlich Schnabel and Maria Curcio.
She made her New York debut at Rubenstein Hall as a finalist in the New York Concert Artist Guild Competition, followed by her Carnegie Recital Hall debut later that year. Since then, she has performed a broad repertoire as a soloist in concerts and recitals worldwide, including the United States, Russia, Venezuela, Israel, Switzerland, Croatia, Mexico and Romania.
Her chamber music repertoire includes works for violin and piano duo and piano trio, which she performed with her late husband, violinist Lucian Lazar. Her recent CD includes works by Schumann and Chopin.
Tickets are $35, which includes a wine and cheese reception following the concert. Seating is limited, so reservations are strongly encouraged and may be made by sending a check to the Westport Woman's Club, 44 Imperial Ave., Westport CT 06880.
Proceeds will benefit the club's holiday hot meal program for Christmas and the new year.
