The Westport Woman's Club Scholarship Committee has awarded a total of $30,000 in scholarships to eight Staples High School seniors and one Adult Woman's Scholarship.

The scholarships, presented at the club's recent annual awards dinner, are based on financial need and scholastic ability (recipients must have no lower than a 3.0 academic GPA).

This year's scholarship recipients from Staples and the chosen college include: Tracy Boyer (Emily B. Fuller Scholarship), Southern Connecticut State University; Matthew Jacowleff (Ina Bradley Scholarship), Northeastern University; Shannon Cardoza (Lea Ruegg Scholarship), Quinnipiac University; Alaina Washington (Ulla and Karl Folke Eweson Scholarship), Western New England University; Alexis Iannacone (Westport Woman's Club "Most Active Member" Karen Center Scholarship), Bryant University; Michael Bottone (Westport Woman's Club Scholarship), West Virginia University; Gabriella Marone (Westport Woman's Club Scholarship), Salve Regina University; and Lauren Reedy (Westport Woman's Club Scholarship), Rollins College.

The Adult Woman's Scholarship was presented to Chidi Chizor (the Gerry Munce Scholarship), who will be attending the University of Bridgeport with plans to earn a master's degree in clinical mental health in the class of 2016.

In addition to its annual scholarships, the Westport Woman's Club supports a variety of charitable causes in the area, including those in the fields of culture, charity and public health.
