People from Westport and Weston are sought to be trained as hospice volunteers by the Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County.

Hospice volunteers visit terminally ill patients and their families to provide emotional support, respite care and companionship.

Volunteers undergo 25 hours of training over the course of five weeks to develop the skills necessary to work with patients and families, the agency said.

The volunteer training course consists of five weekly sessions on consecutive Wednesdays beginning Sept. 21 and concluding Oct. 19. The sessions are planned from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. each week.

Training will be in the agency's Norwalk offices in Suite 114 at the Health and Wellness Center of Norwalk Hospital at I-Park. The center is at 761 Main Ave. (Route 7).
