The play was the thing, but not the only thing, as the Westport Country Playhouse invited the public Saturday to celebrate its 85th season with a "block party."

The sunny, warmer weather set the scene for a range of fun activities at the theater, ranging from backstage tours, music, games food trucks and discounts on tickets for the productions during the new season, which starts next month.

The new playhouse season starts May 5 when the curtain rises on a production of "The Liar" by David Ives. The comedy runs through May 23.

Four more plays will be staged before the season ends in late October. They include:

"And a Nightingale Sang" by C.P. Taylor, June 9-27.

"Love and Money" by A.R. Gurney, July 21-Aug. 8.

"Bedroom Farce" by Alan Ayckbourn, Aug. 25-Sept. 13.

"Broken Glass" by Arthur Miller, Oct. 6-24.
