The Westport Library is showing three films -- all musicals -- in March.
This Thursday, "Singin' in the Rain," a 1952 Hollywood classic starring Gene Kelly, Jean Hagen, Debbie Reynolds and Donald O'Connor will be shown. It is a lighthearted depiction of Hollywood of the late 1920s, caught in the transition from silent films to "talkies."
"Mary Poppins," the 1964 musical fantasy film produced by Walt Disney, is planned for Thursday, March 20. The film combines live-action and animation with Julie Andrews starring in the title role and Dick Van Dyke, David Tomlinson, and Glynis Johns in supporting roles.
On Thursday, March 27, "Billy Rose's Jumbo," a musical produced by MGM in 1962 and starring Jimmy Durante, Doris Day, Martha Raye and Stephen Boyd will be shown. A debt-ridden circus struggles to survive against competition from a well-financed competitor who is determined to acquire its number one attraction, Jumbo, the greatest performing elephant in show business. It was nominated for an Academy Award for its adaptation of the Rodgers and Hart score.
