Westport Public Library will host a talk by documentary filmmaker Elena Mannes at noon Tuesday, March 19, in the library's McManus Room, 20 Jesup Road. She will discuss her first book, "The Power of Music: Pioneering Discoveries in the New Science of Song," exploring how neuroscientists and psychologists are learning how music can change the way brains work.
Mannes created the PBS special "The Music Instinct: Science and Song," which explores recent discoveries about the power of music and its connection to the body, the brain and the world of nature.
Her work has appeared on both public and commercial television. Her honors include six Emmys, a George Foster Peabody Award, two Directors Guild of America Awards, and nine Cine Golden Eagles. Mannes has also produced and directed documentaries for "CBS Reports" and segments for "60 Minutes" and "Prime Time Live" on ABC.
Books will be available for purchase and signing at the free event.
