Westport Public Library will host a free talk by literary agent Coleen O'Shea and attorney Alan Neigher on the most common publishing issues for authors on Tuesday, Dec. 4, at 7:30 p.m. in the library's McManus Room, 20 Jesup Road.
Neigher, a communications, copyright law, entertainment and general civil practice attorney, will address the legal concerns for writers and authors, according to a release. O'Shea, a publishing executive and a partner in the Allen O'Shea Literary Agency, will cover contract business issues, including advances, royalties, commission, options and rights.
She will also talk about how agencies work to develop proposals, build author platforms and help authors and publishers work together successfully.
Neigher has been a principal in the Westport firm Byelas & Neigher since 1980.
O'Shea co-founded Allen O'Shea Literary Agency with fellow publishing executive Marilyn Allen.
While manuscripts will not be reviewed, attendees may bring a one-page overview of a project with an author profile and platform description.
