The Westport Library will be booked solid with more than 80,000 items in more than 50 categories available at its 21st annual Summer Book Sale, scheduled for July 20 through July 23.
The sale, which will fill tents on the library's Jesup Road grounds, as well as the McManus Room, is set for 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, July 20, through Monday, July 22, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 23. Sale items left as of Monday will be sold at half-price and what's left Tuesday is free, although library officials suggest a $5 donation per bag.
Library officials are reminding book lovers who want a first crack at the offerings that, under new procedures, the line for early shoppers starts Friday -- "virtually."
Numbers for a position in line for either the outside tents or inside the library will be available beginning at noon this Friday, July 12, until noon Saturday, July 13, at www.westportlibrary.org. Numbered tickets have been assigned for each venue for up to 200 people (one ticket limit per person and email address.)
Ticketholders must be in line by 8:30 a.m. Saturday, July 20, with the confirmation email with the ticket number printed or displayed on a phone or tablet. Numbers will be honored only until 8:45 a.m.
For those without tickets, entry will be as usual, on a first-come, first-served basis. Each venue will have a line with numbered ticketholders first.
This year's sale includes a selection of literature and art books, hardcover and paperback fiction and non-fiction, vinyl records, DVDs, audio books and children's books. Special offerings include a rare 1610 Catholic German Bible in its original pigskin binding, collections of theater art books and a Civil War book collection.
Because of nearby construction, library officials said restrictions on space will prevent the use of boxes or other objects as place holders for a spot in line before the official sale opening. Any boxes placed near the sale entrances will be removed.
New entrances and exits will be clearly marked.
Site maps of the sale will be on the Westport Library website -- www.westportlibrary.org -- and also at the sale.
