In dramatic come-from-behind fashion, the Westport Little League sotfball team won the Division I title Monday and vaulted into the state tournament.

Taking on North Branford for the division championship, the Westport 12U All-Stars battled back from a 4-0 deficit entering the fourth inning. The pressure was on since the game’s loser would be eliminated from advancing to the state championship round.

Milei Wyatt helped propel Westport‘s rally by crushing a 2-RBI double to cap off a three-run fourth inning, cutting North Branford’s lead to one run.

Pitcher then Sophia Alfero held North Branford in check from there on, mowing down the opposition with her powerful fastball.

But North Branford held onto its narrow lead down into the sixth and final inning, when Westport again erupted for three more runs.

The inning was highlighted by a 3-run RBI double by Jen Westphal, and an RBI triple by Reilly Caldwell.

Alfero closed it out from there, as the North Branford team failed to get anyone on base in their final at bats.

With the hard-fought victory, Westport is scheduled to play Seymour on Wednesday in the state bracket in Bristol.
