The Westport Republican Town Committee will honor two men for their contributions to the local party during its annual Spring Gala on Friday, June 14, from 7 to 11 p.m.
Bob Zappi, former RTC chairman, and Jim Marpe, who is seeking the party's nomination for first selectman in the next municipal election, will be cited during the fundraising dinner at the Westport Inn.
"Jim Marpe and Bob Zappi are two truly outstanding Westporters who donate their time and talents in service to our community," Brandi Briggs, gala co-chairman, said in a news release.
"They epitomize leadership, self-sacrifice and commitment to our town, and we are proud to have them as leaders in the Republican Party."
The gala is open to the public, and party officials said it would provide an opportunity for voters to meet local Republicans and state party leaders. Scheduled to attend are state Sen. John McKinney, R-26, and the Senate minority leader, and Tom Foley, former GOP gubernatorial candidate.
Tickets are $125 and include beer and wine, dinner and dancing.
Zappi has lived in Westport with his family for 25 years and was RTM chairman from 2007 to 2012.
Marpe and his family have lived in Westport for 24 years. He was vice chairman of the Board of Education from 2005 to 2012 and stepped down to pursue the first selectman nomination.
