Familes, couples or singles, Westport First Night has you covered.

If you're eager to ring in 2012 with a wide array of activities and entertainment to choose from, go no farther than downtown Westport this afternoon and evening (Saturday, Dec. 31).

The New Year's Eve fest begins at 4 p.m. with an antique-car parade and continues past midnight.

A variety of music and dance, face-painting and storytelling, theater, magicians, psychics and artists promises something for every age group and just about every taste.

And, of course, there will be plenty of food.

And to cap it all off, First Night fireworks -- the first display at 8:30 p.m. for those who need to get tucked in early, followed by another at midnight for revelers intent on seeing the new year in.

First Night buttons -- pin-on disks that serve as single, all-events tickets -- are $15 and will be available Saturday at all venues.

Among the venues -- all within easy walking distance -- are the Westport Weston Family Y, Christ & Holy Trinity Church, the TD Bank lobby, the Westport Historical Society, the Westport Public Library, Town Hall and Toquet Hall.

Musical choices for youngsters range from kids' favorite Bari Koral, to teen bands Hard Water and Eva Hendricks with Sweet Nothings.

For more mature ears, choices include local jazz artist Chris Coogan and his band, blues pianist Mark Naftalin, Fairfield rockers the Adam Currie Band, the rockabilly group Squeeky Clean and the jug band Washboard Slim and the Bluelights.

For those eager to dance the night away, the Zazu Project will play dance tunes -- from Aretha Franklin to ZZ Top, from R&B to country to classic rock -- from 9:45 to 11:45 p.m. in the Y's Bedford Room.

Veteran square-dance caller Al Bozek will preside over a family square dance in the TD Bank lobby from 7 to 9 p.m., while the Lenihan School of Irish Dance will give two performances in the Town Hall auditorium. A ballroom dance shows is slated at Christ & Holy Trinity's Great Hall from 9 to 11 p.m.

Any performer is welcome to take his or her shot at entertaining the crown during an open-mic session from 6 to 7 p.m. in Toquet Hall.
