The Westport Arts Center will open its Chamber Music Series with a performance by the Harlem String Quartet at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, in the center's gallery, 51 Riverside Ave.

The quartet strives to advance diversity in classical music while engaging young and new audiences through a varied repertoire highlighting works by minority composers.

The concert will focus on music by Walter Piston, Billy Strayhorn, Duke Ellington, Chick Corea and Maurice Ravel, according to a center news release.

The series is produced by Westport native Russell Platt, senior editor for classical music for the New Yorker. He lives in New York City.
