Westport sixth grader Gavin Murphy spent last weekend at the Chris Paul National Middle School Combine, he nation's top showcase event for middle school prospects. Held Jan. 6-8, the combine featured drills and scrimmages between top players from across the country. Los Angeles Clippers guard Paul delivered several speeches to the attendees.

Students were introduced to the NCAA requirements for student-athletes, broke down game footage, participated in nutritional sessions and experienced photo shoots and interview sessions.

Gavin is the youngest of a family of hoops standouts: His father Greg played at the University of Bridgeport and his older brother, Ryan, is a freshman at Charlotte. Another sibling, Luke, is a 5-foot-10 eighth grader who has participated in a number of elite camps.
