Today promises to be mostly sunny, according to the National Weather Service.

But this first day of the weekend is not starting out that way.

Most of southwestern Connecticut is under a cloud cover early Saturday, with a breeze making things feel chilly. The forecast for the region, however, says this should be the nicest day of the weekend: "Mostly sunny, with a high near 55. Breezy, with a west wind between 17 and 20 mph."

OK, let's hope so.

Because Sunday, while also mostly sunny, will be chillier, according to the NWS. The high daytime temperature will be only in the low 40s. Clouds move in at night, and temperatures drop into 30s.

On Monday, there is a 20 percent chance of showers, but the day will be warmer -- temperatures in the low 50s -- but mostly cloudy.

Tuesday, the forecasters say, will again be cloudy, but things may warm to nearly 60 degrees.
