The Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County recently hosted a Boathouse Bash fundraiser in Westport.

The nautical-themed benefit, which took place at the Saugatuck Rowing Club's boathouse, raised more than $71,000 for the agency's patients in need, according to an announcement from the group.

Highlights included a silent auction, a giving tree and entertainment by jazz musician and Weston resident Chris Coogan.

Penny Pearlman, of Westport, spoke to the gathering about her late husband, Bob Minicucci, and the end-of-life care that he received from caregivers at Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County, the agency said. Pearlman expressed gratitude for the care he was given in his final days.

Members of the volunteer benefit committee included Ken Edgar, Carol Bauer, Carol Boehly, Donna Conway, Judy Higby, Ellen Lewis, Janet Lebovitz, Molly Russo, Carlyn Tiefenthaler and Alex Eising.

"We are thankful for the friendship and support of so many in the community who share in our mission to bring healing and comfort to the patients and families in our care," Sharon M. Bradley, the agency president and CEO, said in the news release. "The funds raised at this event will touch the lives of the many patients in need in our community and we extend our heartfelt thanks."
