WESTPORT — A Waterbury man is accused of sexually assaulting and taking nude photographs of a juvenile he’s been tutoring over an extended period.

The family of the juvenile told Westport police in late August that 40-year-old Juan Torres, of Waterbury, had allegedly abused his time alone with the juvenile student, sexually assaulting and photographing the child in the nude on multiple occasions.

On Saturday, Westport detectives along with Waterbury officers executed a search warrant on Torres’s Waterbury residence.

At the home, police allegedly found multiple nude photographs of the juvenile, along with other evidence that corroborated the victim’s complaint.

The 40-year-old was then taken into custody by Waterbury police and transferred to the Westport Police Department to face multiple charges.

Torres was charged with 10 counts of second-degree sexual assault, 12 counts of risk of injury to a child and fourth-degree sexual assault.

According to state statutes, second-degree sexual assault can be either a Class B or C felony and it occurs when a “person engages in sexual intercourse with another person” who is either under age or helpless.

Anyone convicted of second-degree sexual assault can face imprisonment of at least nine months, which may not be suspended or reduced by the court.

Torres was released after posting a $75,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear at Norwalk Superior Court on Sept. 18.
