Wakeman Town Farm is looking for cooks with favorite chili recipes for a cook-off and barn dance on Sunday, Aug. 3.
Teams from various Westport organizations will compete in making chili from 2 to 5 p.m. at the farm, 134 Cross Highway. The cook-off will followed by a barn dance, led by contra dance caller Bill Fischer and his band of fiddlers. The event is a fundraiser for the farm's educational programs.
Chili cook-off teams comprising members from local civic organizations and groups such as the Westport fire and police departments, Westport Y's Men, Westport Woman's Club, restaurants, farms, downtown businesses and individuals with their families and friends, may all enter.
Each chili will be judged by all who attend the event, and prizes will be awarded. Wakeman Town Farm organizers encourage teams to use locally sourced ingredients.
The cost of the event is $20 for adults, $5 for children, or $50 per family. Admission includes chili samples and the dance. Additional refreshments will be available for a charge.
For more information or to sign up a team, contact Craig Charlton at firstname.lastname@example.org by Wednesday, Aug. 1. The team name and the name and cell number of the head chef or point person for the team must be included. Entrants will receive confirmation and details.
