Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County said it is seeking mature, compassionate volunteers to visit homebound adults in Westport and Weston and provide companionship.
Homebound clients may be experiencing loneliness, personal loss, bereavement, life transitions or chronic illness, the organization said, and they benefit from visits. Volunteers visit clients for one hour a week, the organization said.
To become a patient-support volunteer, one must complete a three-session training program planned in late November.
"The program's goal is to help individuals maintain a sense of independence and remain active and connected to their communities," Chris Urpin, Visiting Nurse volunteer coordinator, said in a news release.
The training course is scheduled Nov. 27, 28 and 29 from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Sessions will be at Visiting Nurse offices in Suite 114 at the Health and Wellness Center of Norwalk Hospital at I-Park, 761 Main Avenue (Route 7) near the intersection of Kent Road on the Norwalk and Wilton town line.
