Two people were hospitalized after a two-car crash late Tuesday on the Merritt Parkway at the Westport-Fairfield border that was triggered when one of the cars struck a deer.

Firefighters from both Westport and Fairfield were dispatched to the accident scene between southbound Exits 44 and 42 about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The drivers -- the lone occupant of each vehicle -- were evaluated at the scene and then transported to the hospital for treatment of what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.
