Two people were injured Thursday afternoon in a four-vehicle crash on the Merritt Parkway in Westport.

The accident took place about 2:45 p.m. Thursday between the highway's northbound Exits 42 and 43, according to Westport firefighters.

Two men in two of the vehicles complained of injuries, firefighters said -- one suffered a hand laceration and the other complained of chest pain. Both were transported to a hospital by an American Medical Response ambulance for further treatment. Non additional details on their condition were immediately available.

The parkway's northbound left lane was blocked for the duration of the incident while emergency personnel worked to remove debris and clean up fluids.

Three of the four vehicles involved in the crash had to be towed from the scene.

State Police are investigating the accident.

The last Westport fire unit left the scene at 4:08 p.m.
