WESTPORT — You may want to hold your nose driving north of the Merritt Parkway in town.

Just before 5 p.m. Thursday, a truck carrying Porta Potties leaked some of its contents along a series of town roads according to Westport police Lt. Anthony Prezioso.

As of 6:30 p.m., the Fire Department had contacted the Westport Weston Health District and verified that the leakage posed no public health hazard, Assistant Chief Kenneth Lombardi said. The Porta Potty waste the truck was carrying contains a non-toxic chemical that helps the waste to biodegrade. The department put up barriers to prevent waste from entering storm drains and allow it to evaporate, Lombardi said.

The truck — currently stopped on Easton Road — is being unloaded to move the waste, according to Lombardi.

No roads are closed and the leak is not severe enough to require Hazmat clean-up, Prezioso said.
