The ceremony will take place at 7 p.m. in the church in Westport, 10 Lyons Plains Road, memorializes individuals who have died throughout the world in the previous year because of transgender hatred.

A tradition inspired by the Allston, Mass., vigil for slain transsexual Rita Hester in 1998, the day has become a worldwide rallying point and is observed in more than 185 cities in more than 20 countries.
