The Westport Republican Town Committee has formed a panel to interview potential GOP candidates for Board of Selectman in the November municipal election, the committee announced.

The RTC's Board of Selectman Nominating Committee will interview potential candidates for first selectman and second selectman, then make recommendations to the full town committee, the RTC said in a news release.

The GOP slate will be officially nominated by the full RTC at a meeting in July.

Incumbent Democratic First Selectman Gordon Joseloff and Democratic Second Selectman Shelly Kassen both have announced they will not seek re-election in November. Political observers have said the race to succeed them is wide open.

Registered Westport Republicans interested in being considered for the nomination should email Robert LaFleur, chairman of the nominating committee, at ral27@optonline.net or call him at 203-226-8644.

Candidates will be asked to submit a resume and complete a questionnaire before being interviewed by the nominating committee.

Republican Jim Marpe is so far the only announced candidate for first selectman.
