The weather may seem like a roller coaster ride lately, but that's no reason to stay home. Here are a few ideas to get you going this weekend in Westport:
Summer will be here before you know it, so stock up on beach reading Saturday at the Friends Winter Book Sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Westport Public Library, 20 Jesup Road. Choose from hardcover or paperback, fiction, mystery, non-fiction, LP records and video cassettes. Visa and MasterCard are accepted. For more information call 203-291-4800 or visit www.wesportlibrary.org.
If you like to read, but would rather not tote all those heavy books, get to know your NOOK reader Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Barnes & Noble store, 1076 Post Road East. A program will offer demonstrations of the NOOK reader and learn the basics. For more information, call 203-221-7955.
Head outdoors Saturday afternoon for "Sap to Sugar" a maple syrup demonstration and family campfire from 1-2:30 p.m. at Earthplace, 10 Woodside Lane. Find out how tree sap becomes maple syrup and enjoy some hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows in the process. Admission is $8 for Earthplace members and $10 for non-members. Visit www.earthplace.org for more information.
Visit Black Bear Wines and Spirits from 3-6 p.m. Saturday for a wine tasting hosted by Michael Munk of the Latitude Beverage Co. Featured will be wines from more than 90 cellars. The store is located at 221 Post Road West. Call 203-227-2468 for more information.
Wind up the weekend with the sounds of Latin jazz when Arturo O'Farill, pianist and composer, performs "Latin Jazz and Afro-Cuban Beats," at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Westport Arts Center gallery, 51 Riverside Ave. Tickets are $5, $10 and $25. Visit www.westportartscenter.org or call 203-222-7070.
