The Westport Arts Center has announced its educational offerings for the upcoming season. Registration opens on Monday, Aug. 11, for members, and Monday, Aug. 18, for nonmembers.

Classes for children, teens, and adults include several new sessions: an after-school specialty class, the Building Workshop, for ages 7 to 11; Staycation Camps during February and April school breaks; a Gallery Series for young artists 11 to 18; the Portfolio Development class for students applying to college and Drawing 101 for adults.

The Building Workshop will focus on assembling, constructing, and sculpting with materials such as paper, Legos and clay. The class will develop concepts introduced in Art Factory and Art FUNdamentals. After-school classes will continue to be offered for children 3 to 12. They include KidsCreate for kids 3 to 5; Art Factory for ages 5 to 11 and Art FUNdamentals for ages 9 to 12. The classes use age-appropriate techniques and materials to introduce children to world-renowned artists and different artistic styles.

School vacation day workshops will be offered on Election Day, teacher development days in the Westport schools and Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Saturday ArtLabs will also be offered.

The Gallery Series gives teens the opportunity to tour exhibits and create a project inspired by the artists and techniques seen on the tours. The series includes the Junior Artists' Academy for kids 11 to 14 and the Gallery Immersion Series for ages 14 to 18.

Students applying to colleges or beginning college programs may enroll in four-hour portfolio development workshops, which take place on select Sundays. The workshops will help students create projects that are essential to passing a portfolio review.

The Special Arts mixed-media class for children 9 to 12 who might need extra attention in the classroom, including children with special needs, also returns. Instructors offer adapted lessons.

For adults, monthly Drink 'n' Draw classes, which offer figure drawing in a relaxed environment, will again be offered, and the new Drawing 101 will help adults develop their drawing skills.
