Ridgebury Tankers, a newly founded deep-sea shipping company, has entered into a lease for 2,695 square feet of class A office space on the Saugatuck River as the venue for its corporate headquarters.
Ridgebury, focused on buying and operating tanker vessels, has received $200 million in backing from Riverside Holdings and another $5.7 million commitment from Ridgebury management. The firm, which employs six to eight workers at its headquarters at 33 Riverside Ave., will use the funds to buy a fleet of midsize Suezmax tankers to carry both clean/refined products, as well as crude oil.
The company expects to purchase 12 to 15 vessels in the next six months.
Brett A. Sherman, senior vice president of Angel Commercial, a Fairfield commercial real estate brokerage firm, represented Ridgebury in the lease negotiations.
Ridgebury's executive office is in a 42,920-square-foot office building owned by Abbey Road Riverside LLC, according to records kept by the town's Assessor's Office.
