The Westport Public Library will host a talk on the Ironman Triathlon by New York Times reporter and author Jacques Steinberg at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, in the library's McManus Room, 20 Jesup Road.

Steinberg will discuss his new book, "You Are an Ironman: How Six Weekend Warriors Chased Their Dream of Finishing the World's Toughest Triathlon" In the book, he examines why somoeone would train as a hobby to swim 2.4 miles in open water, ride a bike 112 miles, and then run a 26-mile marathon within 17 hours. Looking past professional triatheletes, who live off their prize money and sponsorships, Steinberg focuses on "ordinary" triathletes and the physical and emotional toll and psychological payoff their extraordinary hobby brings them.

Steinberg, a New York Times reporter for more than two decades covering education and the media, is also the author of "The Gatekeepers: Inside the Admissions Process of a Premier College."

The talk will be free and open to the public and books will be available for purchase and signing afterward.
