An eight-week support group for people caring for a chronically ill loved one will be offered in April and May by Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County.
The sessions are planned on Tuesday afternoons from 1:30 to 3 p.m. beginning April 9 and continuing through May 28. Meetings will be at Visiting Nurse's office in Suite 114 of the Health and Wellness Center of Norwalk Hospital at I-Park. I-Park is located at 761 Main Avenue (Route 7) on the Wilton/Norwalk town line.
The program is free, but advance registration is required.
Caring for a loved one who is ill can be emotionally and physically exhausting, Visiting Nurse said. The caregiver, who is frequently elderly, can experience a combination of fear, loneliness, grief and isolation.
"Any person caring for a family member with a chronic disease finds that their independence and freedom are supplanted by stress and exhaustion," Nanette Greene, a grief and bereavement counselor with Visiting Nurse, said in a news release.
"Caregivers need a place to talk about their feelings and what they are dealing with day-to-day, a place where they can exchange information and find understanding that isn't available anywhere else," she said.
