The executive director of the Westport Arts Center will give a presentation on its proposal for a new center on Jesup Green at the Friday, April 11, meeting of the Westport Sunrise Rotary.

Peter Van Heerden's topic will be "The Arts Center's Journey to Jesup -- Prospects and Plans to Develop a Cultural Campus in Downtown Westport," Sunrise Rotary said in a news release.

The meeting will take place at 7:30 a.m. at Bobby Q's, 42 Main St.. It is open to nonmembers for a $12 fee, which includes a breakfast buffet.

The arts center has proposed moving from its current Riverside Avenue location to a building it would construct on Jesup Green, adjacent to the Westport Library and near the new Levitt Pavilion for the Performing Arts that is under construction.

Its vision is to be part of a cultural and learning campus along the Saugatuck River, but opponents have argued that Jesup Green should remain an open space.

Van Heerden joined the arts center in 2011. From 2004 through 2010, he was founder and artistic director of The Erf 81 Cultural Collective in Cape Town, South Africa.
