Emily Schussheim, an eighth-grade student at Coleytown Middle School, recently won awards in the 34th annual Trumbull Arts Festival Writing Contest, according to a news release.
Schussheim took first-place honors in the middle school poetry division for "Soul Music" and second-place in nonfiction for her piece "Flying Solo."
Her pieces were published in Pen Works, the festival's official publication, the release states.
Schussheim was honored with other winners in the elementary, middle school, high school and adult divisions in a recent ceremony at Trumbull Library.
"Both of Emily's entries deal with her love of music, specifically the cello," Paul Ferrante, her teacher, said in a statement. "Her works are a fine example of self expression for the same subject across different writing genres."
