Staples High School senior Lauren Weinberger has organized a "Listen to the Beat -- A Concert to Benefit the American Heart Association" event on Saturday, May 4.

The fundraiser is scheduled for 8 p.m. at Toquet Hall Teen Center, 58 Post Road E.

Weinberger, 18, a voice and acting student whose grandmother died of a heart attack at age 60 and whose father has heart disease, has orchestrated "Listen to the Beat" for the past two years.

She has assembled a group of 21 teens from Westport, Weston and Fairfield for the event. They will select and perform Broadway tunes and more modern, teen-friendly hits, with piano accompaniment.

The fundraiser has raised more than $10,000 in the past two years.

She has also raised money for the association by walking in its annual Heart Walk since she was 9 years old.

Admission is $15 for students, 20 for adults at the door. Advance tickets not available. Additional donations will be welcome at the event.
