WESTPORT — Perhaps the biggest win of the season for the Staples boys lacrosse team came on a Friday night against Ridgefield back on April 29. To keep its season alive, the Wreckers will have to topple the Tigers again.

Staples set up a highly-anticipated rematch with Ridgefield by knocking Trumbull out of the Class L tournament behind a 9-4 win on Wednesday. Michael Reale fired a first half hat trick and had five goals total for No. 4 Staples, which will host No. 5 Ridgefield on Saturday at 3 p.m.

The Wreckers got out to a 6-1 halftime lead and held off a feisty Eagles squad in the second.

Evan Zinn, Ross Goldberg and Josh Willis also scored goals for Staples, which improved to 16-3 this spring.

The Staples volleyball team also advanced to the Class L quarterfinals behind a 3-0 (25-9, 25-15, 25-13) sweep of Shelton at the Wreckers gym on Wednesday afternoon. The No. 6 Wreckers will travel to Conard Friday night at 7 p.m.
