The Westport Kiwanis Club has awarded more than $8,500 to 10 graduating Staples High School seniors.

The awards were presented to the students “in acknowledgement of their scholastic excellence and service to the community,” Kiwanis officials said in a release announcing the scholarships.

The recipients are: Michael Bottone, Jack Baylis, Rachel Doran, Gabriella Marone, Taylor Harrington, Lauren Reedy, Killian Jampierre, Matt Jacowleff, North Woods and Mehar Kirmani.

Scholarship funds are raised through the Kiwanis Club’s annual Minute Man Triathlon Race at Compo Beach.

The club will celebrate the 30th triathlon on Sept. 13. The event will include a half-mile swim, 5.5-mile bike race and 2.2-mile run. Registration is now open for event event; proceeds benefit local students’ college students through scholarship awards.
