"The Land of Steady Habits" a debut novel by Ted Thompson, a 1999 graduate of Staples High School, has been selected as the Amazon Best Book of April 2014. It is his first novel. Thompson will be speaking on Wednesday, May 21, at 7 p.m. at the Westport Library in conversation with Westporter Kathy Knapp, an assistant English professor at the University of Connecticut and author of an upcoming book on the 21st-century suburban novel.

In "The Land of Steady Habits," a man in his early sixties, seemingly ensconced in an affluent, morally strict Connecticut hamlet, abandons his career and family for a new condo and new life, embarking on a clumsy, hilarious and heartbreaking journey to reconcile his past with his present.

Thompson's stories have appeared in "Tin House," "American Short Fiction" and "Best New American Voices."

The program is free and books will be available for purchase and signing. For more information, visit www.westportlibrary.org or call 203-291-4800.
