Staples girls soccer, field hockey get wins, volleyball falls

The Staples field hockey team continued its shutout streak to start the season with a 3-0 win over Westhill in Stamford on Monday.
The Wreckers host New Canaan (3-0) on Thursday in a battle of potential unbeatens.
The Staples girls soccer team routed Bridgeport Central 6-0 on Monday behind two goals from Tia Zajec and goals Brynly Marsh, Lydia Shaw, Annie Amacker and Olivia Ronca. Staples (3-1) faces Greenwich (Friday) and St. Joseph (Saturday) in a 24-hour period.
Despite winning the opening set 25-21, the Staples volleyball team fell 3-1 to Trumbull on Monday. Trumbull’s Sydney Adams had a monster effort with 15 kills, 17 assists and 19 digs. For Staples, Ginny Gerig had nine kills and three blocks, Reece Schachne had eight kills and three blocks and Maya Lawande had 20 assists.
Up next for Staples (3-2) is a home match with Stamford on Friday.
